Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each, on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The objective of the game is to score goals by moving a ball into the opposing team’s goal, primarily using the feet, although players may use any part of their bodies except their hands and arms, with the exception of goalkeepers who can handle the ball within their penalty area.

The term “football” can refer to different variations of the sport depending on the region. In most parts of the world, it denotes the association football, commonly known in the U.S. and Canada as soccer. In the U.S. and Canada, however, “football” refers to American football, a variant of gridiron football characterized by the use of an elongated spheroid ball and game formats involving complex strategies.

Association football is governed by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), which organizes major international competitions such as the FIFA World Cup. It is considered the world’s most popular sport, with billions of fans globally, participating in local clubs, collegiate, and professional leagues. The simplicity of its rules contributes to its widespread appeal and cultural significance across various countries.
